The battery is the story. At 205 kWh it is roughly double what most large EVs carry, which is how a three-ton-plus SUV posts a 460-mile estimate. The cost is literal and physical: that pack is a major reason the IQ costs $40,000 more than a gas Escalade and weighs as much as it does. Charging speed partly compensates — on a powerful DC station it adds around 100 miles in 10 minutes, though a full home charge on a typical Level 2 connection is an overnight-plus affair. Tech and cabin
Every IQ gets GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway assist as standard, a pillar-to-pillar curved display, a head-up display, and a 21-speaker AKG sound system. Rear passengers get the executive treatment that has become the Escalade’s real job description. Four-wheel steering (with the crab-walk-style diagonal mode GM demonstrated on its other Ultium trucks) shrinks the footprint in parking maneuvers — welcome in something this long.
Should you buy one?
As engineering, the IQ is the most capable Escalade ever made: quicker, quieter, and vastly cheaper to fuel per mile than the V8. As a purchase, the math is harder. The $40,000 premium over the gas truck buys years of fuel savings up front, and big-battery EVs carry their own depreciation and insurance patterns — worth running through the real cost of owning an electric vehicle before signing. For buyers who simply want the presence without the plug, the gas Escalade continues unchanged alongside it.
